A SENIOR leader of a political party was arrested for khalwat with a woman by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) on Thursday.

According to reports in Astro Awani, a source said the 44-year-old leader was apprehended at about 6 pm at a residence in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

"A five-member enforcement team from JAIS arrived and entered the residence. At the time of the raid, the leader and the woman in question were inside the house," said the source.

JAIS took both individuals to its Shah Alam office for documentation.

The identity of the political leader has not yet been disclosed, nor has the party he represents or his specific position within that party’s leadership.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether the individual holds a position at the central or state level, or whether he serves as an elected representative.

Meanwhile, JAIS Director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad confirmed that an arrest involving a public figure for the offence of khalwat was made in the Petaling district at 6 pm yesterday.

He stated that two individuals were detained to assist in an investigation regarding an alleged offence under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.

“If convicted, the offender may be liable to a fine not exceeding RM3,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both,” he said in a statement today. – October 16, 2026
