THE Ministry of Defence must prioritise workforce development to ensure its personnel can effectively utilise emerging technologies and deliver efficient public services, said Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
In a speech delivered by Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali at the ministry’s Excellent Service Awards and Recognition Ceremony, Mohamed Khaled emphasised that advanced technology alone is not enough without a capable and well-prepared workforce.
“In this era of disruptive technologies, the efficiency of service delivery heavily depends on the ability to adopt and maximise the use of technology and digital systems,” Bernama reported him saying.
He underscored that modernising service systems is no longer optional, but a critical necessity to provide faster, more sustainable and competitive services.
“Automation, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and system integration will help reduce manual tasks and avoid resource wastage,” he added.
Mohamed Khaled noted that embracing technology and digitalisation not only boosts operational efficiency within the ministry, but also enhances preparedness to meet the growing demands and complexities of the public service landscape.
During the event, a total of 304 civil servants and 45 officers and personnel from the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) were honoured with the 2024 Excellent Service Award. Additionally, 49 ministry staff who retired in the past year were recognised for their contributions.
In total, 877 civil servants from the ministry, along with 9,569 officers and personnel from the Malaysian Army, Royal Malaysian Navy, and Royal Malaysian Air Force, including 153 retirees, were celebrated for their service throughout 2024.
Also, in attendance were Chief of Defence Force General Datuk Mohd Nizam Jaffar and Navy Chief Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain. - April 28, 2025
