THE Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (PTKL2040) will prioritise technology-based development, environmental preservation, and coordination of land use between the federal government and the public, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Anwar said the draft PTKL2040 introduces several new approaches including redevelopment incentives, more flexible plot ratio controls, and the implementation of new land use zones aimed at enhancing the well-being of urban communities.
“The public is invited to attend the Open Day from Thursday to next Friday, before the plan is officially gazetted at the end of May,” he said.
The Prime Minister said he had earlier attended a briefing on the gazettement of PTKL2040, which outlined initiatives to guide the federal capital’s development in a more sustainable and inclusive direction.
Meanwhile, Anwar revealed that both Cambodia and Singapore have expressed their support for Malaysia’s ongoing efforts, as ASEAN Chair, to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers in Myanmar and to foster peace in the region.
Anwar said he held separate phone conversations with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, during which the leaders voiced their approval of Malaysia’s initiative and ongoing dialogue with all parties in Myanmar.
He said the talks also covered regional issues, including his recent meeting in Bangkok with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of Myanmar's National Administrative Council (SAC), and Mahn Win Khaing Than from the National Unity Government (NUG).
“This meeting is seen as an important step towards lasting peace efforts in Myanmar,” he said.
Anwar added that they also discussed recent developments in regional trade, particularly the counter-tariffs imposed by the United States.
He said Malaysia had sent Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to engage with US representatives in search of a mutually beneficial resolution.
“Malaysia also voiced ASEAN's cohesive stance on this counter-tariff issue and urged the US to see ASEAN as a collective entity on tariff issues and other trade policies.
"Based on the spirit of friendship and the principle of ASEAN centrality, I believe this joint effort will bring peace, prosperity and well-being to the people throughout the region, God willing,” Anwar said. - April 30, 2025
