PETRONAS has confirmed that its subsidiary, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB), received a notice from the Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications on 30 April 2025 regarding gas processing and distribution activities in the state.

In a statement to Bernama, the national oil company said PCSB is legally authorised under the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974 to carry out its operations and complies fully with all applicable laws.

“While we respect the aspirations of the Sarawak state government, Petronas also has a duty to uphold the PDA 1974 and safeguard national interests,” the company said.

“Petronas will continue to engage constructively and work closely with the federal government, the Sarawak state government, and Petros in exploring future arrangements to ensure regulatory clarity and operational continuity for the benefit of the industry, the state, and the country as a whole.”

The company added that it remains committed to ensuring that the rights and interests of all stakeholders, including end users and investors, are adequately addressed. - May 2, 2025
