MALAYSIA is taking a careful and measured approach in dealing with the United States' tariff measures, focusing on diplomacy and regional collaboration to protect national interests and sustain economic momentum, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Tuesday.

“This approach is being implemented in a calm and balanced manner, with the main objective of safeguarding national interests as well as ensuring continued economic growth,” Anwar stated via his official X account.

As the current chair of ASEAN for 2025, Malaysia is also working to deepen ties with key global partners, including the United States, China and the European Union, he added.

In addition, the government is actively seeking new trade opportunities in emerging markets such as Russia and Brazil in a bid to diversify Malaysia’s export base.

“This approach aligns with the country’s medium-term economic strategy which focuses on macroeconomic stability, global trade resilience, and increased foreign direct investment, to ensure inclusive and sustainable prosperity for all citizens,” Anwar said. - May 7, 2025
