INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has applied for controversial blogger Papagomo to be jailed for contempt of court, claiming that the apology he made last week was insincere and followed by further defiance.
In an ex-parte application filed through legal firm KB Tan, Kumar & Partners, Razarudin, 62, sought a committal order against Papagomo—whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, 42—over what he described as a second act of contempt.
According to court documents, Wan Muhammad Azri failed to comply with a court order requiring him to unconditionally apologise to both Razarudin and the court across YouTube, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) for at least seven days. The order also required him to remove defamatory statements dated 14 January and a digitally altered image of the police chief uploaded the next day.
Razarudin said the apology made by Wan Muhammad Azri on 30 April in open court lacked sincerity and remorse. Just days later, on 1 May at 8.30pm, the blogger allegedly posted another video under his social media accounts “Papa Azri” on TikTok and “Sir Azri” on YouTube.
“The defendant’s statements contradict the court-approved apology read in court. His failure to remove the earlier videos from 14 and 15 January clearly shows a breach of the committal order,” Razarudin said in his affidavit.
“These actions constitute a second contempt of court,” he added.
The High Court has set this Friday to hear the committal application.
Last Wednesday, Wan Muhammad Azri apologised to Razarudin over defamatory remarks during a RM3 million defamation lawsuit hearing before Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong.
Razarudin filed the lawsuit on 26 December 2024, seeking general, aggravated, exemplary, and special damages for both spoken and written defamation.
He also requested an injunction to bar the defendant—either directly or through any associates—from making, publishing, or republishing defamatory remarks. - May 7, 2025
