A PAPAYA tree in SMK Julau No: 2 in Sarikei has made the news after its impressive height of 14.40 metres probably makes it the tallest such tree in the country.

The tree which is growing near the boys' dormitory was recently highlighted on social media.

According to a teacher at the school, Abang Masli Abang Wellie, the tree was planted in 2013 and he believes it is the tallest in the country.

Checks revealed that the  tallest papaya tree in the world measures 14.55m, which is 15 cm taller that the one in Julau and belongs to Tarcísio Foltz and Gilberto Franz (Brazil), as verified in Nova Aurora, Paraná, Brazil, on 2 September 2021.

The previous record holder for the tallest papaya tree in the world, which was grown in India by Jhantu Paul, was confirmed on 22 January 2017 and measured an astonishing 14.08m tall. – May 9, 2025
