PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged party members to uphold unity and respect in the upcoming party elections, reminding them that all candidates are part of the same struggle for reform.
Anwar stressed that while healthy competition is part of democracy, party members must avoid personal attacks or divisive tactics that could damage the party’s long-term mission.
“This is a process we must respect, but there are ethics to it. The candidates are all our comrades—loyal to the party, loyal to the reform movement,” Anwar told reporters in Tawau on Sunday.
Anwar warned against planting seeds of division, saying that both winners and losers must remain committed to the party’s cause.
“Do not let this become a situation where those who win stay loyal, and those who lose betray the party. That must not happen.
“In the end, I will have to embrace both the winners and the losers because all are important to our mission.”
Anwar advised candidates and their supporters to avoid inflammatory language and remember that the real priority is to strengthen the party’s ability to deliver on its reform agenda.
“Sometimes, people forget that what we are defending is the party’s principles and the people’s trust. That is what matters—not personal rivalry,” he added.
The nomination period for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)’s 2025–2028 national leadership election concluded May 9.
The deputy presidency will see a direct contest between Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, the incumbent and current Minister of Economy, and Nurul Izzah Anwar, former Permatang Pauh MP and daughter of party president.
Twelve candidates are vying for the four vice-presidential positions.
The PKR National Congress, including the Youth and Wanita wings’ congresses, is scheduled to take place from May 21 to 24 in Johor Bahru.
However, the voting for the central leadership positions, including deputy president and vice presidents, is set for May 23. - May 11, 2025
