THE Sarawak Premier’s Office has lodged a police report in Kuching against a Facebook account holder for allegedly posting insulting remarks against Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
Political secretary Abdul Samat Gany lodged the report at the Satok police station.
"An article containing insulting remarks against the Sarawak Premier was widely circulated.
"It contained insulting and degrading remarks against Abang Johari and state leaders and also against the premier's family.
"It had since been taken down by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and we want the police to investigate this case as sedition.
"The insulting remarks can cause public ill feelings and incite hatred against our state leader.
"Stern action must be taken against those degrading our state leaders and provoking hatred," he told the media after lodging the report.
Last year, there were two similar cases of insults against Abang Johari on social media platforms that had criticised his leadership.
In one of the cases, on Apr 20, 2024, Sarawak police arrested a man in Bintulu for allegedly threatening and insulting Johari and a few other state politicians.
The suspect aged 46 was arrested after police found that he was (allegedly) the one who posted the threats and insults on social media.
On Feb 29 last year, Gabungan Parti Sarawak's main component party - Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) - also lodged a police report against a social media influencer for allegedly insulting Abang Johari in a video on social media. – May 12, 2025
