MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has expressed his heartfelt appreciation following his reappointment for a one-year term, effective 13 May 2025 until 12 May 2026.
In a statement issued today, Azam thanked His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for consenting to his continued leadership at the MACC, describing it as “a great honour” not just for himself, but for all MACC staff.
He also acknowledged the continued trust placed in him by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying: “Fully aware of the trust and responsibility placed upon me, I will continue to lead the MACC’s efforts in combating all forms of corruption, misappropriation and abuse of power, in order to help build a prosperous, just and peaceful nation.”
Azam also offered a prayer for divine blessings upon the King and the Prime Minister as they lead the nation forward.
The reappointment was formally announced on 9 May by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Azam, 62, was previously reappointed for consecutive one-year terms from 12 May 2023 to 11 May 2024, and from 12 May 2024 to 12 May 2025.
Looking ahead, Azam reaffirmed the MACC’s commitment to improving Malaysia’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score, emphasising that international trust and respect were vital for the country’s progress. - May 12, 2025
