PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) may take disciplinary action against any branch committee (AJK Cabang) members who threaten to resign following recent internal election outcomes or attempt to disrupt the smooth organisation of the party’s upcoming National Congress.
Party Communications Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said such individuals could also face blacklisting and be barred from contesting in the event that a re-election is necessary due to their resignations.
"PKR Secretary-General (Dr Fuziah Salleh) mentioned earlier that there were several branches where committee members threatened to resign simply because they disagreed with or disliked the elected branch chief," he said.
"What the Secretary-General stated is that if they proceed with such actions (threatening to resign), the Party Election Committee (JPP) has decided — and this was conveyed by Fuziah — that should a re-election be necessary, all individuals involved in that action may be blacklisted and barred from contesting again."
Fahmi was speaking to reporters after attending the ‘Jelajah Kita Keadilan’ event at Dewan Tok Mat Yahoo in Kepala Batas last night.
During the programme, Dr Fuziah Salleh also addressed the matter, referring to the branch committee members in Lenggong and Masjid Tanah who had threatened to resign after expressing dissatisfaction with the party’s internal election results last month.
Fahmi, who also serves as Minister of Communications, noted that after discussions were held with the affected committees, both groups reconsidered their positions and eventually retracted their intention to resign.
He emphasised that the overall election process had taken place in a festive and peaceful atmosphere, with no reports of violence, property damage, or disturbances to public order. This, he said, marked an improvement over previous election cycles.
On preparations for the PKR National Congress, scheduled to be held from 21 to 25 May in Johor Bahru, Fahmi confirmed that arrangements were proceeding smoothly. The ongoing ‘Jelajah Kita Keadilan’ tour, organised by the Secretary-General’s Office and the Party Election Committee (JPP), has been visiting various locations in the lead-up to the congress.
"This effort will continue into next week. It is a positive and neutral initiative. We are not allowing any form of factional campaigning or group-based endorsements. On election day, even the use of ‘cai’ or candidate slates will be prohibited," he said.
"I’ve reviewed the election system, and the candidates’ images are uploaded with a uniform light blue background. This also reflects our intention to put aside factions or teams and instead contest as part of the greater Keadilan family."
The PKR National Congress, including sessions for the Youth (AMK) and Women’s wings, is set to take place from 21 to 24 May, with voting scheduled for 23 May. - May 16, 2025
