THE Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, has reprimanded certain civil servants in the state for prioritising personal gain over their responsibility to the public, urging a shift towards a more disciplined and ethical work culture.
“There are civil servants who prioritise self-interest over the welfare of the people. I have received reports, and I have personally experienced their work attitudes. However, change is possible, and they must be willing to change themselves before they are forced to change. So, change your work culture,” the monarch said.
His Royal Highness delivered the rebuke during his royal address at the state investiture ceremony held at Istana Arau today, in conjunction with his 82nd birthday celebrations.
“I urge these civil servants to follow the good example set by their colleagues. I hope those involved understand the message I am conveying,” he added, calling for greater discipline in managing working hours and a commitment to professionalism in service delivery.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also stressed the importance of ensuring Perlis does not lag behind in development, stating that an effective and dedicated civil service was essential to driving the state forward.
The ceremony was attended by members of the royal family, including the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid; the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail; and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
During the event, the Raja conferred state honours and medals upon 25 recipients – a number chosen to symbolically mark the Silver Jubilee of his reign, observed from 17 April 2024 to 16 April 2026. - May 17, 2025
