A 32-YEAR-old restaurant manager has pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault after inappropriately touching a 19-year-old female during a job interview last Friday.

The accused, Mohd Sallehudin Roslie, admitted to the offence when the charges were read to him in the Batu Pahat Majistres Court today before Magistrate Arun Noval Dass.

Following his guilty plea, the court imposed a fine on Mohd Sallehudin, with the alternative sentence of seven months’ imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine. He promptly settled the fine.

The charge stems from an incident where the father of two was accused of intentionally using criminal force to assault the victim at a fast-food restaurant in the area. The incident allegedly occurred between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on 16 May.

Mohd Sallehudin was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which provides for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping, or any combination of two of those penalties.

The case facts reveal that the victim had attended the restaurant to apply for a job. After the interview, Mohd Sallehudin allegedly took the opportunity to touch the victim’s hand and embrace her. During the incident, he reportedly told the victim not to tell anyone.

The act was captured on the premises’ closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharif and Firdaus Rusla led the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Normaahani Rais from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK). - May 19, 2025
