Child believed to have fallen from babysitter’s residence; police rule out foul play
A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL tragically died after falling from the 29th floor of a condominium in Puchong on Tuesday, believed to have occurred at the home of her babysitter.
Deputy Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Fairus Jaafar, said the authorities were alerted to the incident at 12.30pm via the Subang Jaya District Control Centre.
"We received information regarding an incident involving a local child who had fallen from the 29th floor of a condominium in Puchong, Subang Jaya.
"Police personnel were then dispatched to the scene to verify the report and provide assistance," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Investigations at the scene revealed that the child was found lying motionless on the fifth-floor landing of the building.
"The incident is believed to have occurred at the residence of the victim's babysitter.
"At the time, the child’s mother was attending to another child who was under quarantine, while the father was at work.
"Our preliminary findings suggest the victim may have climbed a window without protective grilles before falling," he added.
Mohd Fairus confirmed that there were no criminal elements involved in the incident.
"A medical officer who attended the scene confirmed the victim’s death.
"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," he said.
He added that the babysitter’s statement has been recorded to assist the investigation.
"The investigation paper will be completed promptly and referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action," he said. - May 21, 2025
