SOUTHEAST Asian leaders have gathered in the Malaysian capital today for the 46th ASEAN Summit and a series of high-level meetings aimed at addressing regional priorities, strategic challenges, and the future of ASEAN cooperation.

The full-day agenda commenced with the 46th ASEAN Summit (Plenary), followed by a retreat session where leaders engaged in in-depth discussions on contemporary challenges, regional priorities, and efforts to strengthen ASEAN unity.

Also scheduled are a series of dialogue sessions between ASEAN leaders and representatives from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Youth, and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).

The highlight of the day is the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, which serves as a strategic benchmark for shaping the next phase of the ASEAN Community’s development.

The day’s proceedings will conclude with a Gala Dinner hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, featuring a showcase of traditional Malaysian cuisine and cultural performances.

The 46th ASEAN Summit is held under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025, themed ‘Inclusion and Sustainability’. This marks the fifth time Malaysia has assumed the chairmanship, following previous terms in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

In conjunction with the summit, two additional high-level meetings are being held: the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit—both providing strategic platforms to enhance regional and inter-regional cooperation. - May 26, 2025
