A TOTAL of 188 police reports have been lodged nationwide in connection with an alleged event related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues said to be organised by the youth wing of a political party in Petaling Jaya.
Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, confirmed that reports have been filed by various individuals and groups following social media posts that circulated last week.
“Thus far, the police have received 188 reports related to the matter,” he said briefly when contacted today. “We will call the organisers in for an interview.”
Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that police initiated investigations after detecting a social media post referencing a planned programme believed to be scheduled for 21 June in Petaling Jaya.
Authorities consider the programme to be sensitive in nature and contrary to national laws, as Malaysia does not recognise LGBT practices in any form.
The case is being investigated by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of Bukit Aman under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. - June 3, 2025
