THE Kemaman Magistrate's Court fined a warden of a tahfiz centre RM1,200 for slapping a student who was eating bread without permission late last month
Magistrate Sharifah Amirda Shasha Amir Sharifuddin handed down the sentence after the accused, Mohd. Norzaizhul Zainudin, 41, pleaded guilty after the charge was read out.
Based on the charge, the accused is alleged to have slapped the 16-year-old victim on the left and right sides.
The act was allegedly committed by Mohd. Norzaizhul at the tahfiz centre's dormitory here at 3.45pm on April 26.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Lim Zhan Yi while the accused was represented by Masliela Ismail.
It was earlier reported that a student at a tahfiz centre in this district claimed to have been slapped by the warden because of eating a few slices of bread.
The bread was apparently part of the breakfast for all the tahfiz students the next day. – June 3, 2025
