POLICE are in the final stages of completing investigation papers concerning the alleged organisation of an event linked to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocacy, following widespread public attention and over 180 police reports lodged across the country.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that two individuals from Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) were called in for questioning on Wednesday, as part of an ongoing probe.
“Their statements were recorded between 3.10pm and 4.30pm. A total of 38 questions were posed, but both individuals opted to respond in court,” Razarudin said when contacted on Thursday.
He added that a Huawei mobile phone and a SIM card were seized as part of the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code, which pertains to causing disharmony or disunity on grounds of religion; Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, relating to statements that could incite public mischief; and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, involving the misuse of network facilities.
On Wednesday, Federal Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed that the two individuals had been summoned to assist with investigations. He stated that the completed case file will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
In a statement issued on 31 May, PSM chairperson said the event in question had been postponed to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.
To date, 188 police reports from various individuals and groups have been filed nationwide, reflecting significant public concern over the matter.
Earlier, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that investigations were initiated following the circulation of a social media post concerning a proposed event allegedly scheduled for 21 June in Petaling Jaya.
Authorities have described the proposed gathering as potentially sensitive and not aligned with Malaysia’s legal stance, which does not recognise any form of LGBT practices.
The case is being handled by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) under the Criminal Investigation Department in Bukit Aman. - June 5, 2025
