THE search and rescue (SAR) operation for two individuals reported missing since 6 June came to a tragic end this morning, as both bodies were recovered near the National Hydrography Centre in Selangor.
Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali, Operations Officer for the Selangor Maritime Authority, confirmed that both victims were found at approximately 7.45am by patrol assets operating in the vicinity.
"Maritime vessel KM Danga recovered the body of a woman, while the fire department deployed its own assets and successfully located the body of a man," he told reporters after the remains were brought ashore at the Selangor Maritime Jetty.
"The two bodies were found floating approximately 200 metres apart," he added.
The discovery site was about 0.1 nautical miles from the National Hydrography Centre. Both bodies were transported to the Selangor Maritime Jetty and handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.
The SAR operation, which had entered its third day, was officially called off at 9.50am following the recovery.
Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq expressed appreciation for the cooperation and commitment shown by all participating agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
"The operation, led by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, has now concluded following formal instruction. All assets involved have returned safely to base," he said.
He also reminded the maritime community to prioritise safety at sea.
