Tengku Zafrul dismisses talk of by-election, says will serve full term as Senator
He also thanked Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi - June 9, 2025

TENGKU Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz dismissed speculation of him being a potential candidacy in any upcoming by-election, whether at federal or state level, following his decision to leave Umno and apply to join PKR.

“I would like to make it clear that no such discussion has ever taken place, and it was never part of my considerations in making this decision.

"I fundamentally disagree with the idea of triggering by-elections without pressing necessity, as they also involve the time and the people's money," he said in a Facebook post, after completing his Haj pilgrimage with his wife.

The senator said he will continue to carry out his responsibilities as a member of the Dewan Negara until the end of his service in December 2025.

"I left the corporate world with the intention of serving, and as long as my service is needed, I am willing to contribute without the need for any position."

He also said that his decision to withdraw from Umno and apply to join PKR was a personal choice made without coercion.

"I admit, it was not an easy decision, but I have considered all views and opinions given to me very carefully.

"In a society that practises democracy, every individual has the right to make personal choices, and I truly appreciate all the views and acceptance of this decision."

He also thanked Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the party’s supreme council and grassroots members for their support during his time in the party. – June 9, 2025
