A 27-YEAR-old police officer, Lance Corporal Muhammad Alif Monjani, pleaded not guilty at the High Court here today to the charge of murdering Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) graduate, Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah, in July last year.

Appearing before Judge Datuk Khadijah Idris, the accused confirmed that he understood the charge, although no plea was formally recorded.

According to the charge, Muhammad Alif is accused of murdering Nur Farah Kartini, 25, at the SKC Kledang estate in Mukim Hulu Bernam, Hulu Selangor, between 6pm on 10 and 15 July 2024.

The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. If the death sentence is not imposed, the alternative punishment is imprisonment for no less than 30 years and up to 40 years, along with 12 strokes of the cane.

The accused was initially charged at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrates’ Court on 26 July 2024. However, on 28 May this year, the case was transferred to the Shah Alam High Court for trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Maizatul Munirah Abdul Rahman is leading the prosecution, while the defence team comprises lawyers Aida Zainuddin and Aida Jaafar.

Judge Khadijah has fixed 15 July as the next mention date.

Nur Farah Kartini was reported missing on 10 July 2024. Her body was discovered five days later in a palm oil plantation, prompting a police investigation that led to Muhammad Alif’s arrest and subsequent charge. -  June 12, 2025
