POLICE are actively pursuing three masked men involved in a violent armed robbery at an entertainment premises on Jalan Changkat Jong, an incident that was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media.
According to Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin, the case was reported by a 42-year-old local security guard at 1.02am on 15 June.
“Initial investigations have identified one of the suspects as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record,” he said in a statement on Saturday. “He has since been listed as a wanted individual.”
A forensic team from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) has examined the scene and recovered several pieces of evidence including blood traces, two fingerprints, and fragments of broken glass.
“CCTV recordings have also been obtained to assist in the ongoing investigation,” he added.
During the robbery, the assailants entered the premises brandishing machetes and swinging them at bystanders.
“They also smashed property within the premises, injured two patrons, and damaged four vehicles belonging to other customers,” said Bakri.
The group reportedly made off with an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee and RM2,000 in cash from the counter.
“The complainant reported that the three masked men arrived in a Honda car with its number plates removed,” he added.
Police have opened an investigation under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery using weapons, and under Section 427 for mischief resulting in damage to property.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are working to track down all suspects involved. We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact their nearest police station,” Bakri said.
