THREE healthcare workers experienced a frightening ordeal early Monday when their ambulance veered off the road and overturned at the Melawa roundabout along Jalan Salut, near the Sepanggar Commercial Centre.
The incident occurred around 1.50am and involved a male doctor, a female nurse, and a male driver. Both medical personnel sustained minor injuries, while the driver was unharmed.
Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Ordine Gilu said his department received an emergency call at 1.55am.
“A total of 14 personnel from the Kota Kinabalu and Lintas fire stations were dispatched to the scene, located 23 kilometres away,” Sinar Harian quoted him saying in a statement on Monday.
“The crash involved a Ministry of Health ambulance, believed to have skidded and overturned on its own. Two of the three occupants sustained minor injuries.”
Rescuers provided initial treatment at the scene before the injured doctor and nurse were transported to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) via Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
The rescue operation concluded at 2.37am after firefighters confirmed there were no further hazards at the site. - June 23, 2025
