THE PKR Youth Central Leadership Council (MPAMK) has reaffirmed that the Selayang division’s youth wing remains active and legally constituted, despite claims that a wave of resignations had effectively dissolved the committee.
In a statement following its first meeting of the new term on 19 June, the council confirmed that it had received several resignation letters but found discrepancies in the documentation.
“In light of this, and in the interest of fairness and in accordance with PKR Youth regulations, MPAMK has decided to hold a special meeting this week with all members of the Selayang PKR Youth branch committee to resolve the issues raised,” said council secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap.
He added that the meeting would aim to clarify misunderstandings and find common ground to address the leadership tensions within the branch.
“MPAMK would also like to emphasise that the Selayang PKR Youth branch remains valid, continues to operate as usual, and functions in line with PKR Youth regulations,” he said.
The council urged all parties to allow internal processes to take their course and cautioned against premature assumptions about the division's status.
Earlier media reports had claimed that 17 Selayang Youth Committee members had submitted a joint resignation letter dated 7 May, protesting alleged irregularities in the April 12 internal polls that elected Tamilarasu Thamil Kalai as Youth Chief.
Deputy Selayang Youth Chief Muhammad Amir Sahmat alleged that 14 elected members had lost confidence in Tamilarasu’s leadership and submitted both statutory declarations and resignation letters in protest.
They referred to Clause 7.12 of the PKR Constitution and Clause 15.11 of the youth wing's standing orders, asserting that two-thirds of the committee had resigned, which would legally trigger its dissolution and necessitate the formation of a temporary leadership body.
However, PKR Youth secretary-general Fuziah Salleh stated that the total number of committee members stands at 26, meaning at least 18 resignations would be required to fulfil the conditions for automatic dissolution.
As such, MPAMK has reiterated that the Selayang youth division continues to function in full compliance with party rules. - June 23, 2025
