MUAR Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, expressed hope that justice would prevail as he awaited the outcome of his appeal against multiple convictions at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya on Wednesday.
The former Youth and Sports Minister is appealing against convictions for abetting criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property, and two counts of money laundering under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA), all linked to events dating back seven years.
“After five years, I am only praying that the truth will prevail. I want to clear my name as I promised, through the court platform,” he said. “I respect and revere this institution because it is the best platform to clear one’s name – judged by facts and data – while also being accountable before Allah SWT,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Speaking to media outside the Federal Court, Syed Saddiq conveyed deep appreciation for the steadfast support shown by his family, colleagues, and supporters throughout the prolonged legal ordeal.
“I am deeply indebted, especially to my parents and family, for their constant support,” he said. “To my colleagues in MUDA and friends who travelled far – even if they couldn’t be here physically – they sent their prayers and well wishes online. I thank them.”

“For the past three or four nights, every evening, there were online Yasin sessions on TikTok and Zoom. I am truly touched and grateful, because in the world of politics, I am just an ordinary person,” he said. “But with everyone’s encouragement and support, I remain strong and able to press on, no matter the challenges ahead.”
Syed Saddiq reaffirmed his intention to defend his integrity through the legal system, stating, “I am committed to clearing my name through the legal system.”
When asked how he would respond if the court’s decision were not in his favour, he replied succinctly: “I think we should allow the judges to make their decision and wait for the outcome.” - June 25, 2025
