POLICE have ruled out any criminal elements or involvement of illegal moneylending syndicates in the death of a woman found deceased in her home in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Johor, earlier this month.
The body of Lo Kwan Fong, 39, a schoolteacher, was discovered in an advanced stage of decomposition on 13 June, after neighbours reported a foul odour emanating from the property.
Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan confirmed that while the deceased had previously borrowed RM20,000 from an unlicensed lender, the debt had been fully repaid.
“She had once lodged a police report and the case was investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951. However, after the debt was settled, no further reports were received,” Sinar Harian quoted him saying during a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
“Moreover, her neighbours reported no incidents of paint splashing or harassment typically associated with loan sharks. She never lodged a police report after repaying the loan,” he added.
Kumarasan further confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry or struggle at the premises.
“When found by police, the body was in a seated position inside the bathroom. The house was locked from the inside,” he said.
According to neighbours, the deceased was known to be a kind teacher but largely kept to herself.
Post-mortem results conducted by forensic specialists at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) were inconclusive, with the cause of death listed as “undetermined due to advanced decomposition.”
To date, her remains have not been claimed. Checks with the National Registration Department confirmed she was an only child, and both her parents had passed away several years ago.
“Police will consult the hospital again. After two weeks, her remains will be handed over to Sultanah Aminah Hospital to appoint a private funeral services provider,” Kumarasan said.
“We understand that she may have had an aunt residing in Singapore, but we have not been able to obtain any information regarding her,” he added.
He noted that several parents of the deceased’s students have expressed willingness to assist in her funeral arrangements. - June 25, 2025
