THE Ministry of Communications has been recognised alongside two other ministries for implementing significant reforms to reduce bureaucratic red tape, receiving a special certificate of appreciation for its efforts.
According to Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, the Communications Ministry made notable progress by streamlining the approval process for foreign film scripts, reducing the waiting period from 30 days to just seven.
"This, in turn, enhances Malaysia’s competitiveness as a preferred destination for international film production," he said in a statement shared on Facebook. He added that the reforms have led to regulatory cost savings of up to RM2.4 million per production.
The ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, accepted the certificate during a ceremony held in Putrajaya.
The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) was also acknowledged for its achievements, particularly through the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM). Approval time for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications has been reduced from 28 days to three, while non-system-based technical plan certifications have been expedited from 30 days to seven.
“This was achieved through streamlined procedures and the strengthening of the e-Premis system and development of a central data repository, resulting in annual regulatory cost savings of RM1.776 million,” Shamsul Azri noted.
KPKT secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Taib received the certificate on behalf of the ministry.
The third recipient of recognition was the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), which succeeded in lowering barriers to financing within the aerospace sector.
According to Shamsul Azri, the reforms generated RM17 million in regulatory savings for 50 small and medium-sized enterprises, enabling production capacity increases of up to 30 per cent.
“Gross profit margins increased by over 20 percent through automation and certification, further strengthening the supply chain and creating more high-skilled jobs. Reforms are being intensified and improvements accelerated,” he said.
