KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor today called upon the people of the state to reflect on the similarities that bind them, and remain focused in strengthening racial harmony and religious comprehension towards building the ‘Sabahan spirit’, especially in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued in conjunction with the upcoming Christmas celebration, Hajiji said in the midst of the pandemic this year, Malaysians of all faiths have had to celebrate their festivities by adhering to set guidelines, adding that he believed Christians in the state will celebrate Christmas and New Year in a similar manner.
“Let us build on the respect, stability and harmony that our forefathers have laboriously toiled for us and for future generations. This is the path of unity in diversity on which we have always walked,” he said.
Hajiji said at a time of festivity, it is important to remember the bravery of frontliners in fighting to contain the Covid-19 scourge, and the vigilance of security forces in keeping the people and country safe, be it day or night.
“We keep them and their families in our prayers. Let us unite and continue to fight the spread of Covid-19 by taking care of our families, communities and ourselves, and strictly adhering to all safety precautions and standard operating procedures.
“Despite 2020 having been an arduous year due to the pandemic, we should look forward to 2021 with courage and hope,” he added. – Bernama, December 23, 2020
