A NINE-year-old disabled girl who died on suspicion of being abused by her stepfather is believed to have suffered a broken left leg for the past month.
This was revealed by Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit in a press conference at the Melaka Tengah District Police Headquarters (IPD), today.
He said that as a result of interrogation, the main suspect, the victim's 36-year-old stepfather, admitted to hitting the child with a pillow at their home in Taman Kota Laksamana, last month.
"The post-mortem was conducted for six hours by the Melaka Hospital forensic team, but we are still waiting for the laboratory report to find out the exact cause of death.
"However, the broken leg suffered by the victim is believed to have occurred more than a month ago while the bruises on her body are not the main cause of death," he said.
He said that the mobile phones belonging to the victim's biological mother and stepfather were seized for analysis, in addition to a polygraph test being conducted to confirm their statements which were said to be consistent with their previous confessions.
"Both suspects said that she had fainted before the mother tried to perform CPR and the stepfather then took the child to the hospital.
"Further investigations are still being conducted and so far there is strong evidence linking the elements of neglect to the victim that caused the death," he said.
He said that so far the investigation is still being carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - June 26, 2025
