HIS MAJESTY Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, has called on the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to be constantly prepared and equipped with the latest defence technologies to face an increasingly volatile and unpredictable global landscape.
Speaking at the Commissioning Parade for MAF Cadet Officers at Kem Perdana Sungai Besi today, His Majesty said ongoing conflicts such as the war between Iran and Israel, as well as the prolonged crisis in Gaza, have demonstrated that even international law cannot guarantee global peace.
“It is important for the Malaysian Armed Forces to always be prepared and equipped with the latest defence technology to face any eventuality. We do not know who is truly friend or foe,” His Majesty said.
Sultan Ibrahim also issued a stern reminder to the government to ensure that political interference and supplier influence are kept entirely out of military procurement processes.
“MAF top leadership, too, must always act with integrity and steer clear of corrupt practices. As the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, I will not tolerate anyone who abuses their position for personal gain,” His Majesty added.
Expressing concern over the use of social media among military personnel, Sultan Ibrahim warned against sharing sensitive information online, such as troop movements, unit locations, or operational details.
Referring again to the Iran-Israel conflict, he noted how technology companies, mobile applications and social media platforms had been exploited to devastating effect.
“I want this to stop immediately. Use sound judgment and refrain from disclosing unnecessary information to the public. It is better to be cautious now than to regret later,” he said.
Congratulating the 509 cadet officers who completed their training, His Majesty reminded them that a military career demands sacrifice, strength of character, honesty, and absolute loyalty to King and country.
He urged the new officers to uphold discipline, prioritise the welfare of their personnel, and lead with honour. His Majesty also extended his gratitude to the parents who entrusted their children to serve the nation.
