PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to remain a pillar of professionalism and integrity, while ensuring the welfare of its officers, personnel and veterans is not overlooked.
In a statement shared via Facebook, Anwar said the reminder was conveyed during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, in Putrajaya on Monday.
"Among the issues raised in the meeting was on modernising PDRM in meeting current security challenges with the latest technological sophistication, including artificial intelligence," he stated.
Describing the PDRM as a key national institution, the Prime Minister said it required “high determination and commitment to ensure that the country's peace and security continue to be maintained.”
“Good luck to Dato' Seri Mohd Khalid, may he be able to elevate the aspirations, image and reputation of the PDRM to the highest level,” he added.
Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has been appointed as Inspector-General of Police for a term of two years, commencing on 23 June 2025 and concluding on 22 June 2027.
In a separate posting, Anwar stressed the urgency of international solidarity and moral courage in confronting the protracted humanitarian crisis in Gaza, now in its 21st month.
“I had a productive video call with British political figure and Member of Parliament, Jeremy Corbyn, to discuss collaborative measures among like-minded countries... including those within the Hague Group, to amplify international pressure on Israel to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza immediately,” he said.
Anwar added that both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to upholding international law, defending human rights, and “advocating for a just and lasting peace.”
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in nearly 189,000 Palestinians killed or wounded—many of them women and children—with more than 11,000 still unaccounted for. - July 1, 2025
