THE United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) has rescheduled its 2025 General Assembly to 26–29 November, citing the need to prioritise preparations for the upcoming Sabah State Election.
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was made during a Supreme Council meeting held on Monday at Menara Dato’ Onn, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
The session was chaired by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and attended by vice-presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, among other leaders.
Originally set for 20–23 August, the assembly has been deferred to avoid conflicting with the electoral calendar in Sabah, where the five-year term of the state legislative assembly will expire on 11 November, triggering the 17th state election.
Asyraf Wajdi also announced that UMNO would be conducting a mid-term review of the performance of the Unity Government, including the role and achievements of UMNO leaders in federal positions and affiliated agencies.
On party discipline, he said the council had resolved that appeals from members subjected to disciplinary action could be considered, in line with Clause 20.12 of the party’s constitution.
He also made clear UMNO’s opposition to intra-coalition party-hopping, warning that attempts by any party in the Unity Government to accept defectors from coalition partners could lead to "misunderstandings and disharmony".
Separately, Asyraf Wajdi expressed the party’s appreciation to the UMNO Liaison Committees of Terengganu and Perak for assisting in the delivery of aid following the fatal bus crash in Gerik on 10 June, which claimed the lives of 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. - July 1, 2025
