TENAGA Nasional Berhad (TNB) customers will now receive a more detailed electricity bill under a revised format that clearly breaks down charges across three main components, as part of a new tariff structure recently announced by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
The new format, implemented in line with the government-approved Incentive-Based Regulation (IBR) mechanism under Section 26 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990, aims to enhance billing transparency and enable customers to better understand how their energy usage translates into cost.
According to TNB’s official myTNB website, the bill will now display separate charges under Generation, Network, and Retail components.
“Generation Charges cover the cost of fuel, generation capacity, and global fuel price adjustments. Network Charges involve transmission operation and maintenance costs, while Retail Charges relate to customer services, billing, and account management,” the website explains.
TNB says this move will allow customers to “track every sen spent” on their electricity usage, thereby empowering them to make more informed decisions on daily energy management.
During the transition in July, customers will receive a hybrid bill reflecting two billing periods: usage up to 30 June 2025 (calculated under the previous tariff) and usage from 1 July 2025 (based on the new structure).
“July’s transition bill will be made available within 24 hours via the myTNB app and online portal. Printed bills will be delivered within seven working days from the date of the meter reading,” the utility said.
To ensure customers are kept fully informed, TNB will issue a verification slip from the meter reader to confirm that meter readings have been taken.
From August 2025 onwards, all customers will begin receiving monthly bills under the fully revised format.
To support users in adjusting to the changes, TNB has also launched an online Electricity Bill Calculator on the myTNB website, allowing consumers to estimate their charges under the new rates based on usage patterns.
