TWO passengers were killed and sixteen others injured in a collision involving a tour bus and two lorries at Kilometre 80.7 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) late last night.
The crash, believed to have occurred at approximately 12.30am, involved a tour bus carrying 45 passengers and two lorries — a tanker and a tow truck. The deceased have been identified as Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44, both passengers aboard the bus. The drivers of the tanker and tow truck survived the incident.
Commander of the Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station, Md Isa Masngun, said his team received a distress call at 12.44am and promptly dispatched seven personnel to the scene.
"The accident involved three vehicles, namely a tour bus carrying 46 individuals including the driver, and two lorries," Harian Metro cited him saying.
"There were two victims, both passengers of the bus, who were trapped and pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, while sixteen others — including the bus driver and other passengers — sustained injuries.
"Another twenty-eight passengers escaped unharmed. The Rescue Operations Team (PKO) used special equipment to extricate the trapped victims.
"The injured were transported to hospital by ambulance with assistance from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit for further treatment," he added.
According to Md Isa, the tow truck driver, aged 42, and the tanker driver, aged 33, were unharmed in the incident.
