THE Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has confirmed that a preacher recently arrested by police over alleged criminal activity had his teaching credentials revoked in 2022.
MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin stated that the individual had previously been detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) in September 2024 for delivering religious lectures without valid accreditation.
“It is an offence under Section 119 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003, and the case is still being heard at the Syariah Subordinate Court,” he said in a statement.
A surau administrator is also being investigated in the same case for allegedly enabling the unauthorised sermon.
On Saturday, Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the preacher is under investigation for allegedly circulating sex videos involving his wives and several other women.
Salehuddin added that since 2022, a total of 35 individuals have had their credentials revoked for violating the council’s conditions, including propagating teachings that deviate from the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed, engaging in criminal conduct, or holding political office.
“Several others have had their teaching credentials suspended pending investigations in accordance with relevant laws,” he said.
He stressed that all decisions by the religious authorities are undertaken with due diligence and have received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as Head of Islam in the state.
“These measures are intended to protect the interests of the Muslim community in Selangor,” he said. - July 6, 2025
