NURUL Izzah Anwar has promised that justice will prevail in an incident involving a celebrity ustaz who abused his position to sexually assault a boy recently.
The PKR deputy president said the incident unfolded when the ustaz approached the teenage boy and promised to guide him with his religion.
"He used the boy's interest in nasyid to entice him and one day invited the boy to accompany him to another state to watch a nasyid performance.
"The boy agreed as he was confident the ustaz was a good, respected, religious person," she said.
However, that night everything changed.
"The ustaz began putting his hands up the boy's pants and groping him.
"The boy was confused and alone. He pushed the ustaz away and ran to the toilet where he locked himself for five hours."
He later noticed the ustaz was asleep and ran out of the hotel room and called his family while trembling in fear.
They then lodged a report.
It was later discovered that several other similar reports were lodged against the same ustaz.
"Suddenly, a few days ago, the family was sued by the ustaz for hundreds of thousands of ringgit and asked to make an open apology in the newspapers.
"They are a B40 family with hardly any savings. The whole family is now shaken and in tears," said Izzah.
She said the boy had dreamt of becoming a teacher and wanted to help others build a better future.
"But now, he is traumatized, needing monthly counselling, dependent on medication and his results going downhill.
"One thing for sure is I will not back down. If the ustaz wants to sue, we will fight him ... I will bring my lawyers, ensure the boy is protected and justice is served," she added. - July 13, 2025
