UMNO Vice President Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani advised party members to work as a team at all levels, in preparation for the upcoming general election (GE).
Taking a football analogy, Johari, who is also the Minister of Plantations and Commodities, said that a team cannot win even if it has a great striker.
“In football, when we fight, we cannot rely only on a striker for victory. If only one striker goes all out, but the others do not perform, it will be very difficult. So in our case, we must also fight as a team.
“If the team is right, strong and there are no contradictions, especially in facing the election, God willing, we have already achieved a 50 percent victory. The rest depends on the issues that arise in the government and the country,” he told reporters after officiating the Shah Alam Division UMNO delegates’ meeting, today.
In his opening speech, Johari asked all members to change their mindsets by taking into account the views, especially of the younger people, to continue to remain relevant in leading the country.
“Our voters, 40 percent of whom are young voters and have very different thinking from our generation. This is happening all over the world when the people at the age of 18 can automatically become voters.
"If we as a party cannot understand the thinking of young people, how can we cultivate and constantly produce young leaders who can understand and resolve issues?," he said.
Meanwhile, Shah Alam Division UMNO Chief, Datuk Azhari Shaari said that the UMNO leadership in the area was made up of a new team, mostly youngsters.
He said that almost three-quarters of young people were part of the division's top ranks.
"The move is to get the voices and views of young people in to further strengthen the party's future," he said. - July 27, 2025
