THE potential consequences for motorists should the Government proceed with a scheduled toll rate increase in 2025 without delay will be a central topic in the Dewan Rakyat today, following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s remarks on the matter on 23 July.
According to the Order Paper published on Parliament’s official website, Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN–Pekan) will raise the issue during Minister’s Question Time, seeking clarity on how the move may affect highway users amid rising living costs.
The subject of energy pricing will also take centre stage, with Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH–Sungai Petani) expected to press the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation to explain the rationale behind the newly introduced electricity tariff structure. The question will focus on whether the tariff aligns with Malaysia’s broader energy transition goals, while addressing concerns it may burden the public.
On the same matter, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN–Kubang Kerian) is scheduled to inquire about the current status of the waqf water programme introduced by the previous administration. He is also expected to ask whether the initiative will be formally incorporated into the National Water Resources Policy or the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Separately, Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN–Langkawi) will direct a question to the Minister of Communications, asking for an outline of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) procedures in handling public complaints regarding statements made on social media.
In the area of social protection, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PH–Bandar Tun Razak) will seek an update from the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development on measures to introduce more robust legislation safeguarding senior citizens from neglect and abuse by family members.
Following the oral question sessions, today’s proceedings will continue with the second reading of several key legislative proposals, including the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill 2025, the Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill 2025.
This session marks the Second Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 15th Parliament, with sittings scheduled to continue for 24 days until 28 August. - July 29, 2025
