A RECENT armed robbery at a residence in Jalan Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya, is not believed to be linked to the corruption trial of former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, despite the victim being a key witness in the case.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that preliminary investigations have found no evidence suggesting the incident was targeted due to the victim’s legal involvement.
“So far, no arrests have been made, and the case involves the loss of valuable items,” he said, adding that 16 witness statements have been recorded so far and investigations at the scene have yet to yield any leads.
“Based on investigations, the threats made to the victim were simply ‘don’t make noise’ and ‘stay quiet’, which were more in the nature of verbal instructions from the suspects. This is common in many cases, as it is often a way for the suspects to ensure the victim’s cooperation,”he told reporters at Sepang District Police Headquarters on Monday.
According to police, the District Police Operations Room in Petaling Jaya received a report of the incident at 7.20am last Wednesday.
A group of masked assailants armed with machetes broke into the home, targeting valuables kept in a safe. During the robbery, one resident, two security guards, and a personal driver were assaulted before the suspects escaped through a forested area behind the property.
The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code, relating to gang robbery and armed robbery. - August 11, 2025
