THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has appealed for the cancellation of an upcoming rally in Bertam, Kepala Batas, scheduled for 14 August 2025, warning of risks to public order and the possibility of confrontation between opposing groups.
“PDRM takes seriously every issue that may potentially affect the safety and welfare of the public,” Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said in an official statement on Thursday.
To prevent any untoward incidents and safeguard the local community, the police have advised all parties involved “to ensure the security of the local community is preserved and to avoid any form of unhealthy confrontation”.
Separately, police are pursuing investigations into the display of the national flag, the Jalur Gemilang, in an inverted position—an act which has circulated widely on social media and prompted concern nationwide.
“A total of 38 reports have been lodged nationwide—17 in Penang and 21 in other states,” he added.
The ongoing investigation involves individuals believed to have flown the flag upside down, as well as those who recorded and disseminated the videos. These actions are being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The investigation paper was submitted to the Penang State Prosecutor’s Office on 11 August 2025 and is currently under review,” the police confirmed.
