THE Ministry of Communications has pledged to fully support the call by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to intensify efforts to eradicate the ‘culture’ of bullying from Malaysian society, beginning at school level.
The commitment was made following an audience granted by the King at Istana Negara earlier today, during which His Majesty the King underscored the emotional and psychological harm inflicted by bullying, and its long-term potential to erode social values such as respect and compassion.
“The Royal command is a clear reminder that bullying not only damages the emotional and mental well-being of victims, but also risks producing a generation devoid of mutual respect and empathy,” Communiciations Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said in a statement on Monday.
“The Ministry of Communications will support the King’s vision through a nationwide anti-bullying awareness campaign across television, radio, social media and digital platforms, sad Fahmi. “It will also coordinate cross-ministerial actions to ensure the message reaches students, parents and the wider community in an integrated manner.
Further, the ministry plans to embed values of respect, discipline and compassion into government communication strategies and community programmes.
The King’s call aligns with the government’s legislative commitment under the MADANI agenda, through the Criminal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act 2025 — both of which aim to enforce tougher measures against bullying.
“The Ministry will also ensure that anti-bullying messages are delivered in ways that are easily understood by children and adolescents, in line with the King’s wish for the younger generation to embrace noble values from an early age,” the statement added.
Fahmi called on all segments of society — including parents, schools, the media and local communities — to unite in eliminating bullying.
