DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, chaired the second Technical Committee Meeting under the Implementation Action Council for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MTPMA63) for the year, as the government prepares for the main council meeting to be held in Kuching this September.
“This meeting is crucial as it serves as preparation for the first MTPMA63 Council Meeting of 2025, to be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching, Sarawak, scheduled for 12 September 2025,” Fadillah said in a statement.
Two briefing papers were tabled during the meeting—by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU, JPM) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES).
“The meeting agreed that both papers would be brought forward to the first MTPMA63 Council Meeting of 2025 for final decision and implementation,” said Fadillah.
Significant progress was also recorded in the discussion of education-related matters.
“Most of the demands concerning education have been agreed upon by the Federal Government, and the State Governments of Sabah and Sarawak,” he noted.
This includes involvement in planning education development projects, information sharing on senior officer transfers, and disbursement of funds for professional development programmes.
“Outstanding matters will continue to be discussed through the Joint Action Committee for Education Development in Sabah and Sarawak under the Ministry of Education,” he added.
On healthcare, similar progress was reported. “A majority of Sabah and Sarawak’s demands have also been agreed to,” said the Deputy Prime Minister, including increased operating and development expenditure, limited autonomous powers for the State Health Directors, and strengthening of human resources in both state health departments.
“Unresolved matters will continue to be deliberated through the Joint Action Committee for Health Development in Sabah and Sarawak under the Ministry of Health,” he affirmed.
He also confirmed that other outstanding demands are still under active monitoring by the Technical Committee under MTPMA63 and by the respective working committees within relevant ministries.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Federal Government as well as the Governments of Sabah and Sarawak. Present were the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick; Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang; Deputy Premiers of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Professor Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; and Sabah’s Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan and Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya.
