THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is working to trace the individual behind a threatening message sent to the wife of former Minister of Economy, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.
The phone number used to deliver the message was reportedly registered under the identity of a foreign national.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that investigations remain ongoing.
“We are still seeking assistance from our colleagues at MCMC. I believe we will do our utmost to resolve this matter swiftly,” he told reporters following the PDRM Special Dialogue III held earlier today.
Police have already identified the phone number involved, and as part of broader investigations, 19 individuals have provided statements in relation to a separate case involving Rafizi’s son, who was assaulted at a shopping mall in Putrajaya on 13 August.
In a related development, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid also announced that the police force will begin implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in various aspects of its operations to enhance effectiveness and reduce dependence on manpower.
“This initiative, which aligns with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ direction, will see the deployment of AI in administration, management, and field operations,” he said.
He added that AI technology would be particularly useful in tackling challenges related to cybercrime. “With AI, we can save time and resolve many issues more efficiently, reducing our reliance on human resources,” he explained.
The Inspector-General expressed optimism about collaborating with local and international agencies and private sector partners to strengthen national cyber security frameworks. “This is an opportunity to engage with stakeholders, including foreign delegations, to address the complex issues we face in the realm of cybersecurity.”
The PDRM Special Dialogue III, organised in collaboration with Alpine Integrated Solution Sdn Bhd and the Royal Malaysia Police Cooperative, featured the participation of 20 security-related firms from Malaysia and abroad. - August 26, 2026
