THE Coroner’s Court here will hear an application to recognise the mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, Noraidah Lamat, as an interested party in the inquest into her daughter’s death, which is set to begin on 3 September.
A legal team led by counsel Hamid Ismail has filed the application on behalf of Noraidah, seeking for her to be formally declared an interested party in the proceedings.
In a statement, the legal team confirmed the application was submitted to the Coroner’s Court on 19 August.
The request, if granted, would allow Noraidah to actively participate in the inquest, including the right to examine and cross-examine witnesses, access documents, propose additional evidence, and introduce witnesses to assist the coroner in establishing the cause of death.
The legal team has also requested that the Attorney General’s Chambers provide relevant documents prior to the start of the proceedings.
The court’s decision on the application will determine the extent of the bereaved mother’s involvement in the judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Zara Qairina’s death. - August 28, 2025
