POLICE in Perak have confirmed the arrest of “a 41-year-old local woman of Malay ethnicity” after she “ascended the main stage during the National Day celebration at state level in Perak”.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), in a statement issued by the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar on Monday addressed rumours circulating on Facebook alleging that a Chinese woman had been detained.
“The police refute the viral claim. The arrest was made on one (1) local woman of Malay descent, aged 41 years,” he said. “A urine screening test was conducted on the suspect and the result was negative.”
Investigations into the incident are proceeding under Malaysian penal provisions.
These include Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt; which states “Whoever voluntarily causes grievous hurt shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine,” and Section 511 of the Penal Code for “attempting to commit an offence punishable under this Code, which is subject to the same penalties as the offence attempted.”
Police are also probing the spread of false information under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for “statements conducing to public mischief with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public.”
Conviction may result in imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both,” as well as for Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network services.
Upon conviction, offenders may be fined up to RM500,000 or imprisoned for up to two years, or both.”
M. Kumar issued a warning to the public stating: “PDRM hereby issues a warning that firm action without compromise will be taken against any party that deliberately creates or disseminates false statements that cause public alarm and disturb societal harmony in Malaysia.” - Sept 1, 2025
