FIVE policemen, including a senior officer, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang yesterday on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes in return for not taking action for an offence of possessing a stolen motorcycle.

Sources said that all the men, aged between 20 and 40, were arrested between 2pm and 5pm when they appeared to give statements at the Penang MACC office.

"Initial investigations found that they were suspected of abetting the act last Friday in an operation carried out around Seberang Perai.

"One of the suspects is believed to have solicited and accepted a bribe of about RM9,000 in cash from an individual who owns a motorcycle workshop," said the source as reported by Berita Harian.

Penang MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. - September 2, 2025
