MALAYSIA’S upper house of Parliament will today address a range of pressing issues, chief among them the government’s proposed fiscal interventions to assist the M40 middle-income group in managing financial commitments such as housing loans, children’s education and healthcare.
According to the Order of Business published on the official Parliament website, Senator Datuk Prof. Emeritus Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman is seeking clarification from the Minister of Finance regarding specific measures aimed at easing the financial pressures faced by the M40 demographic.
In the same session, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department is expected to respond to a question from Senator Musoddak Ahmad concerning the development of the Malaysian Syariah Judiciary Academy (AKSM). He is also anticipated to provide an update on government efforts to increase the number of civil court judges with formal Syariah legal education backgrounds.
On the international front, Senator Hussin Ismail has called on the Minister of Defence to explain the government's efforts and the challenges it faces in advocating for the deployment of United Nations peacekeeping forces to Gaza, amid ongoing violence in the region.
The sitting will also examine a broad spectrum of domestic issues, including the effectiveness of the “Jom Masuk U 2025” university admissions initiative, mental health guidelines for working women, the National Women’s Policy review, the development of Premier Sixth Form Colleges, and strategies to address youth unemployment and workforce reskilling in response to the rise of artificial intelligence.
