THE Penang State Education Department (JPNPP) has confirmed that no discussions have taken place regarding a possible transfer for the female teacher who was seriously injured in a domestic violence incident involving her husband, who is also a teacher.
"The department's current priority is to ensure the teacher receives the appropriate guidance and support to resume her duties in due course," said JPNPP Director, Mohammad Dziauddin Mat Saad, when contacted on Wednesday.
He said the teacher remains on medical leave until next Tuesday and will be reassessed by doctors to determine whether extended leave is necessary based on her recovery.
Several forms of assistance have been arranged to support her welfare and rehabilitation, he added.
“Counselling services are being provided in collaboration with organisational counsellors from the Northeast District Education Office (PPD) and JPNPP.
“The first visit was conducted last week after the teacher and her family indicated they were ready to receive support,” he said.
JPNPP has also advised the school’s administrative team on managing her needs, including the use of special leave entitlements or other measures to assist her during this recovery phase.
"This effort is important to ensure that the teacher can eventually return to work in a better state and continue her service as usual," he said.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of last Wednesday in Taman Tunas, Sungai Ara, was reported by Sinar Harian. The female teacher was left with a neck wound after being attacked by her husband, who subsequently attempted to harm himself and was critically injured.
The attack occurred around 6 am and was discovered by the victim’s mother, who heard her daughter screaming from an upstairs bedroom in their two-storey terrace house. Upon rushing to the scene, she found her son-in-law pinning her daughter down and intervened to stop the assault.
The teacher, though seriously injured, was reported to be in stable condition, while her husband remains in critical care at Penang Hospital with severe injuries to his neck and left wrist. - Sept 3, 2025
