A MAN and his female partner have been remanded for seven days from today, to assist investigations into the deaths of two children who drowned after their car slid into Sungai Linggi in Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson, yesterday.
Port Dickson police chief Supt Maslan Udin said the 46-year-old man, the father of the two children, and the 41-year-old woman would be remanded until Sept 11.
"We are also looking for the mother of the two deceased children," he said, adding that police have yet to establish if the man is still married to the victims' mother.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Police are also still investigating the motive behind the incident, but the two individuals detained at the Port Dickson district police headquarters at 8pm last night have not been fully cooperative.
It was earlier reported that two siblings, aged six and eight, drowned after the car they were travelling in with their parents slid into the river.
It is understood that at the time of the incident, the car was parked on the riverbank with the engine turned off while the victim's father went out for a short smoke break.
Both victims are believed to have been trapped in the vehicle and drowned, while the victim's mother, who was also in the car, was rescued by the public.
A check found that the male suspect had 16 previous criminal records including four outstanding cases related to fraud and other crimes, while the female suspect had no criminal record. – September 5, 2025
