KUALA LUMPUR – Following the deaths of three workers at a sewage treatment plant in Pantai Dalam yesterday, Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd said it will cooperate with the authorities’ investigation.
In a statement today, the company said it will conduct an internal probe to identify the cause of the incident, which saw three cleaning crew dead after inhaling toxic gas at the plant.
A worker from Bangladesh, as well as two other individuals, were injured in the 2.40pm incident.
The three fatalities were a Bangladeshi and two Malaysian employees of a cleaning contractor.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Muhammad Ridhwan Kamarulzaman had said all six employees were believed to be carrying out cleaning works in a tank at the time of the incident.
Upon its arrival, he said, the department's Hazardous Material Unit Team from the Jalan Tun Razak station conducted air quality readings and ventilation procedures before undertaking rescue.
He said one of the victims was extracted from the area and taken to hospital, while the bodies of the others were retrieved by the Water Rescue Unit.
